Rizal The Romantic (Queridas De Rizal)

Rizal's love connections were notoriously numerous and complicated.

Throughout his life, Rizal had a variety of love interests and partnerships.

The term "queridas" alludes to many girlfriends or lovers of Rizal.

During his lifetime, Rizal had at least three known queridas: Leonor Rivera, Segunda Katigbak, and Josephine Bracken.

·         Rizal's childhood lover and real love was Leonor Rivera. Despite Rizal's travels and studies abroad, they maintained a long-distance romance, exchanging letters and staying in touch.

·         Rizal's love letters to his queridas, especially to Leonor Rivera, show his amorous and passionate side.


·         Segunda Katigbak was another woman Rizal courted while still a student. They had a brief but intense romance.

·         Josephine Bracken was an Irish lady Rizal met in exile in Dapitan. They ultimately fell in love and married just before Rizal's execution.
